Over the May long weekend the SOAR Ringsport team travelled to Palmer, MA and competed in the Wicked Smart Working Dog Club trial.
Ryan and Alex brought INDI, MAKO, and IONN and Ryan trialled all three dogs. We went down with high hopes after a winter of dedicated training to work on improving upon the results from last year’s Canada Cup results, and all the hard work paid off! All three dog’s not only trialled and passed but obtained personal bests in their respective levels.
INDI: 250.1/300 (3rd place) – this was an excellent showing by INDI, who did exactly what was asked of her. She was so close to pulling off a score up over 270, but she scored 10/40 in the search/escort after some excellent decoy work by Lvl 2 NARA decoy Sergio Nieves.
MAKO: 183.8/200 (2nd place) – the heat worked to our advantage in the second trial of the weekend by zapping MAKO of that extra amount of crazy he usually brings. We were very happy with his performance this weekend in the actual trial as well as doing the Dog in White/Chien en Blanc in the first trial.
IONN: 93.9/100 (4th place) – this was perhaps the biggest stress of the weekend. Much has gone into training and preparing IONN for his trial debut. IONN did not disappoint, his size and good looks were backed up when he brought Lvl2 NARA decoy Sergio Nieves to the ground on the face attack.
With the success this weekend, we are happy to see INDI and MAKO go into semi-retirement. They will be used to train our decoy(s) and for club trials. Should their scores be in contention, we plan on bringing them to the 2015 Canada Cup to make a run at the national championship!
We will now focus our efforts on IONN and Alex’s new puppy when he arrives from France.
A huge thank you to Judge John Bayreuther as well as HA’s Sergio Nieves and Scott Dunmore for safe and consistent work. Additional thanks to the host club, Raul Octaviani and Candice Sousa for their hospitality. It was a pleasure seeing friends of old and new and to see our friend Ben Allanson obtain his R3 with his dog Hank
